Maggie Thompson
Laughter Yoga Teacher and Laughter Ambassador Merrie MaggieBiographical Info
After several years working within the Voluntary Sector, I took a job with Age UK Dudley. This is where my Laughter Yoga journey started – when I facilitated a training workshop for Extend Exercise tutors with a Laughter Yoga workshop in 2009 …
I consider that day to be my ‘light-bulb’ moment. Trained initially as a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader I upgraded this to teacher in 2013 and then took early retirement so I could concentrate my efforts on Laughter Yoga and raising awareness of it within my local community. In 2017 Dr Madan Kataria (Founder of the Laughter Yoga Movement) presented me with the award of Laughter Ambassador.
I deliver between 1 and 3 monthly in-person Laughter Clubs (including a monthly combined walk and Laughter Yoga) and one weekly online laughter club. I have trained a total of 32 people to be Certified Laughter Yoga Leaders so far.
I have been engaged to deliver Laughter Yoga sessions for groups within the local Mental Health Trust, Carers, Residential Homes, British Wheel of Yoga events, WI’s, University ‘freshers’ events, Boys Brigade, various Health & Wellbeing events, conferences and festivals, as well as some corporate sessions. I had fun running Laughter Yoga for a Hen Party too.
In October 2017 I organised the Laughter Yoga Open Day in Birmingham, bringing inspirational 5 speakers to the event. It was attended by members of the Laughter Community and beyond from all parts of the UK. A 30-minute video of the highlights can be viewed here:
